States.
Butter imports into the Philippine Islands vary from year to year, and in 1997 were 228,000 pounds below those of 1924. Of the total imports in 1927, the United
States supplied about 25 per cent., Australia 40 per cent., and New Zealand 18 per cent. Canada and Denmark also ship butter to the Philippine Lelands. A very small quantity of butter is produced on these islands.
The market for butter in Indo China has increased and then de- creased. The Standard market for the week under review opened easy: Sellers pressed cash copper and prices gave way sharply, On Mon- day, however, a sharp reaction took place, which was sustained through- out the succeeding days, and, as will be seen from the prices quoted above, London closed firm last night, cash metal being 13/9d. higher on the week.
Good buying of forward by opera- tors with America connections was noticable. We understand that a large quantity, about 2,000 tons, was taken up on Tuesday, and it looks as though the squeeze for near copper is making itself felt. In the meantime, sentiment has been rather adversely affected by small arrivals for store. gards Electro, fairly heavy par- chases have been made by the Unit- ed Kingdom and the Continent...
