Chang is not bad, but tires too fast for any useful purpose, as witness the six runs segred off him in the eighth frame. When the league starts (I understand it will start soon) it is hoped that, some "new talent will be discovered, especially Amongst the Chinese, as I have an idea that Hong Kong has to visit Shanghai this year to attempt to bring back the inter-Chinese base ball shield.
Tennis.
The principal event on the card is, of course, the team race. The conditions require five members in cach team, each of whom will swim two lengths. The V.B.C. certainly possess a rosy chance on paper, but I would advise them not to take

Only one name occurs to me in trying to find member of the V.R.C. who might upset calculations, and that is J. R. Johnstone, who has, as we all know, a wonderful "crawl and back strokes. If his breast-strakes and side-strokes are as good as I have been given to understand, then there will be some lun on Friday next,

I see on the programme a race over 150 yards, which is open to the Colony. I fail to see why 150 gards should be chosen rather than, say, 100 yards or 220, which are more or less standard races. Still, perhaps some very good reasons lie behind this choice and is yould not do to say anything against it with out knowing the facts. I can see Large entry, and feel inclined to think that some good swimming will be seen. I have not seen much of the Service men this season, but there is every reason to believe that some of their best swimmers will enter for this race,
The programme, I understand, has since been slightly altered and the concluding water-polo match will be between" China and "The

China.
As if they were out to avenge the heavy defent of their "B" team, the Recreio scored a similar victory over the R.E. juniors. C.R.C. had little difficulty in disposing of the Cricket Club, while the Craigen-! gower six beat the R.A.0.C. 64. There were no games in the senior division, and interest in it is on the decline as the final positions in the league table are as good as de- cided.. Within the synagogue there is a
Greek inscription with the faces of Shem and Japhet, and also a Hebrew inscription giving the names of the builders, but no indi cation of its date. It appears that the synagogue was pulled down and the church hastily built at the time of the serious outbreaks of Samari tans and Jews in Nablus in 529; which led to the issue of persecut ing edicts against the Jews by the Emperor Justinian.
