Miss Virginia Gildersleeve, Dean of Barnard College, one of the lead ing women's institutions in Ameri- ea, has added her voice to those who deplore the conditions brought about by Prohibition. She says the present situation is intoler-

able.

Appajirao was married to Shar- dabai in 1920 and their relations had ade were barmonicus. Alter Appajitas the acquaintance of Ganapatram Nuri also called Nuri Bawa, the complainant and the members of his family used to visi Nuri Buwa's residence for bhaja and kirtans. It was alleged that Nuri Buwa had one hypnotised Sharda..

It was further alleged that Shar dabai had been given to understand that Nuri Buwa was the Maharaja

of Nepal and she the Maharani of Nepal and daughter of Sharkerdeo, another disciple of Nuri, in their previous births. It was also stated that Nuri Buwa suggested to the complainant that Shardabai should leave the protection of the com.. plainant. The complainant got an- noyed at this and instructed Shar-

more.

Complained to Police.

After Appajirao bad left for his office, it was alleged, the second accused came to the compound of the chawl in which the complainant resided and he and Shardabai left the place together. As Shardabai did not return, the complainant's mother sent her daughter, and a neighbour to the first accused's residence to fetch her. This proved futile and the mother herself went to Kakadwadi

In response to the inquiries made by her, the accused was, stated to have told her that Appaji need not worry about his wife and that he,. the Buwa, had asked Appaji to release Shardabai. A complaint was made to the police, and some days later the present case was filed. A search warrant was obtain ed from the court and the accused's residence was searched, but Shar- dabai was not found there.
