(FROM OUR CHINESE CORRESPONDENT. |

CANTON, July 17.

Acting on the recommendation of the Department of Reconstruction the Provincial Government has,des cided to abandon the proposed site in Ying Tak district for their gement factory, in favour of Tsai

Toon in the western part of the city,

Ying Tak, although quite faveur. ably placed for raw materials, has been found too far from Canton-

the chief source of the necessary labour-and inconveniently situ- ated for transporting coal and the anished product. There are also two other grave disadvantages to Ying Tak; it is in a lonely place otoriously infested with bandita and it is a natural strategie point | on the North River upon which armies generally seem to converge. In the event of war in Kwangtang it would stazid every chance of being turned into a temporary fort and heavily bombarded As it is more important for the factory to figure in the economic than in the military history of Kwangtung this has been a deciding factor in the decision to build in a more prosaic

spot.

The actual site chosen is Lion's Fill Ridge and work has already been started there.
