Tennis Notes.
The inclement weather prevailing last week end spoilt all Saturday's League matches, which were all postponed. Two matches have since bean played in mid-week, aiz Chinese RC. "A" v. Craigengower
"A" and Chineše R.C. "Č 7. Craigengower in both of which the Chinese were successful. By their success the Chinese have won their way to the second place
the League Table, where Kow- loon tie with them with 4 wins and
1 loss.
An unusually early start is being made in the Annual Heng Doubles Handicap Tournament, organised by the Hong Kong Cricket Club for. their members only. This has been į found necessary, us record num. ber of entries has been received, This year fifty pairs have entered as against 37 last year and 32 i 12. The stondy increase, shows the popularity of this event and the growing interest taken in the
game.
Rivalry for honours is expected to be greater than ever. As the tennis sub-committee have, a re- putation for fair and discriminate handicapping, it can confidently be expected that there will be many close matches. The progress of the tournament will be keenly watched. and until the results of the first two zounds are known, forecasts are difficult to make.

THE BEST PLAYER IN
ENGLAND.
DR. GREGORY'S CLAIM,
Before the recent world tour of the British lawn tennis team it was generally considered that the best Player England had was H. W. Austin," but at the same time the fear was expressed that the matter of physical condition would prevent hot him from attaining to the highest honours. That tour is over, and By Bunny Astin is back apparently Chia much fitter player than when he started. When it comes to putting the question to-day as to who is our best player, however one is as likely to hear the name of Dr. J.
Yesterday's matches in the Mixed Doubles League were carried out according to programme. At any rate, there is no gainsay ing the fact that in the recent Wim- 30ledon trials Gregory established a very strong claim for inclusion in a Davis Cup team, so strong indeed that he is put down as a certainty, and it is merely a matter as to what other player would best fit in with him in doubles in singles, niso, his place is assured.
