PERFORMANCES IN THE
LEAGUE.
FURTHER GLEANINGS.
[BYBACK WOOD."]
Continuing my notes of yesterday or Senior Division teams in the lawn bowls League, Craigengower owe a lot to Omar and Base for carrying the third rink in their last two matches. The change in Brad- bury's rink did not work well, but there will be more confidence this afternoon, as I understand that Rumjahn is taking his regular place. Omar's rink has been very consistent, and praise is due to his men for beating Russell's team last Saturday by 19 shots or a green which was all against them.

The Police have had the bad luck to lose all their matches so far. Their initial defeat on rainy day seems to have proved a bad onen. Moss's rink has been a weak point, but I am hoping that they will do better at Taikoo if they study their opponents' play and use more weight.
Civil Service have been disap- pointing sires their good start in defeating the champions. They have "kept their players together pader capable leaders, but fortunes have wavered. On the whole they are down on all rinks. Maughan was recently brought in as number thret after successfully lending in the Second Division, and I should like to see him given a trial in the senior team if a change is contem- plated in the future..
Second Division Skips. Civil Service are bracketed at the head of the Second Division League table with their neighbors across "the ground. They have had five different leaders but I expect that they will now consolidate their and rinks under Massey, Luck Haynes. All three rinks have 4 credit balance,
*
Craigengower are also a moving. crowd. Skip Collins has been con- sistent in all his matches, and is still unbeaten. On this and an. other rink some beginners have been taken on, and they seem to be improving.
The only other rink still remain ing unbeaten is Walmsley's at Taikoo. They were well up in all their matches liya total of 57 shots. D. F. Warren's rink was the mest useful for the Bowling Green Club.

MORE ABOUT THE "CRAWL," STROKE.
· COMPLETE · MOVEMENTS DESCRIBED.
[NY JR. JOHNSTONE.]
I have no doubt that those who have carried out the instructions given in my previous articles will more or less have grasped the fundamental explanation, and I will therefore now concentrate on the hem stroke.
The simplest method to attain this movement is for the learner to secure & standing position in water reaching to the armpits, with one leg slightly forward in order to brace the body,
From this position, extend the right arin forward, slightly relaxed, with the palm.down and fingers to- gether, letting the left arm rest on the water"in line with the hip, with the palm turned up
First Movement.
Pull the right arm down, slightly bent at the elbow, keeping the palm pressing against the water. The downward "course of the arm should follow the centre line of the body, finishing its pull at the right hip. As the right arm is pulled down, the left is simultaneously carried forward, slightly bent at the elbow, to touch the water at full arm's length in front of the head. A similar movement to that gone through with the right arm should
be carried out with the left.
The arms are moved alternately. as described, the action being con- tinaous, one arm being carried for- ward to catch the water in front of' the head, a little to the side, as the other is being pulled down through the water. These strokes

The Yacht Club lost to Civil Service after a run of successes. I have great faith in their leaders, who all possess good crews, and i hope to see them regain their usual form to-day before they journey to Taikoo next Saturday. Muskett (formerly of the C.C.C.) has been tower of strength for the Elee tricians. If the other rinks would keep up the good standard of Musket's men, they should have a successful season.

however, applies to the advanced stage of the "crawl," when the learner has mastered the element-
aries.
The prelude to this movement is to lie on the water in the position described for bouyancy, with the body relaxed. First of all, start the leg action as previously described, commencing with the left arm down, at the same time turning the face- towards the left shoulder for in- helation through the mouth. After inhaling, the body is rolled over on the stomach as the left arm is carried forward to catch the water in front, a little to the left side of the bead. As one rolls over, he exhales through the mouth or nose, whichever is more convenient. As the left arm catches the water, the right has completed the full arm stroke at the right hip. The idea then is to pull the left arm down in same way as the right, carrying the right arm forward to the first or starting position, thus completing
