Tow-boats and steam launches plying Between Canton and the country districts have resumed, operations and are sailing to nearly all the country "districts.

The sugar market in Hong Kong is dull and as exportation is limit ed merchants are overstocked...A quantity of green sugar was recently imported from Manila, and met but very little demand.
Since the anti-Japanese Boycott was lited large consignments of straw hats have been imparted from Japan. This has adversely affected straw hat manufacturers in the city and merchants who placed large orders with Shanghai for Chinese straw hats expect to lose on the deals.
According to a telegram of the 26th from New York, the price of silk has dropped sharply due to the competition of artificial silk. Last week, quotations were fifteen cents lower (American money) per pound. The market in Canton is quiet. Few transactions have been made and. prices have fallen.

A FILM PLAY IN THREE ACTS,

The director of Diamond Hand- cuffs," which you can see to-day at the Queen's Theatre. has turned to a convention, unavoidable on the stage but hitherto, I believe, dis- regarded on the screen, of dividing his story into three acts. Such a deliberate hampering of the greater freedom of story telling allowed by the screen, is only excusable be cause the plot falls into three den finite parts, but there seems to be no real, reason why the three com ponent parts should not have been better weled. I think it would have been more satisfactory if the third part had been omitted, since the two earlier "acts" are suff- cient to make a good story by themselves. The third act seems to have been added in order to, com- ply with the demand for "crook " Elms and plays and to get Elcauor Boardman's name onto the hoard- ings.
