HONG KONG RACE MEETING.
LAST MEETING OF THE SEASON.
KEEN RACING PROMISED,
CHANCES OF PONIES DISCUSSED.
(Br EARLY BIRD.]
The Hong Kong Jockey Club's racing fixture which will be con- ducted at Happy Valley this afternoon and continued on Monday will terminate the first half of the 1929 season. Ponies will then be due for a let-up, and most of the owners will arrange to have their ponies turned out to grass until the resumption of racing.
I have no doubt quite a number of our local owners will take advantage of better grazing facilities and have their charges sent to Shanghai as the climatic, conditions up North are far better than at either Hong Kong or Macao.
I have ascertained from a reliable source that the committed are negotiating for the purchase of a Totalisator, which if instal led should add considerably to the importance of our future race meetings.

LIFEGUARDSMAN WHO DROPPED.
COLLAPSE OF SLEEPING CHARGER.
This is the true story of the Likes : guardsman who dropped, and it happened in Whitehall a few days ago.
He was one of the two sentries on guard at the entrance to the Horse Guards Parade: His helmet and cuirass shone in the sun; the gleam on the coat of his jet black charger set off the snowy whiteness of his gauntlets:
He was one of the Sights of London and he knew it.
A battalion of foot guards swung through the gates: the sentry pat rigidly at attention, his sword at the carry,"
Crash!
What happened no one will ever know. All that the horriñed spectators 63W WAS that formaculate charger, apparent
sleep, had collapsed, finging rider to the pavement.
The shining helmet with its white. plume rolled away; dust dulled the cuirase; horse and rider scrambled up.
The sentry, more scarlet than his. scarlet tunic, scrambled back into the saddle
The foot guards shuddered but marched on.
The corporal-major of the fate- gcards and the foot guards re- gimental sergeant-major are both doing as well as can be expected, thank you!.
