During the 24 hours ended at 9 am. yesterday the returns to the Harbour Cce of cargo carried by vessels arriving in Hong Kong were as follows:-

MARINE COURT CASES.

An unlicensed Chinese hawker was before the Hon. Comdr. G. F. the Marine Court at Hole yesterday for hawking clothing on board the Hong Hwa without a license,

Defendant pleaded not guilty and said he was not selling the goods. He was merely looking after them for his master.

According to a the police witness he boarded the steamer in question on 4th inst. at about 11 am. and found accused selling goods. When He asked defendant for his license hu could not produce it.

The defendant gave evidence to the effect that he had left intruc- —10,642 —10,121tions for his jpki to "watch the

goods" and not to sell them. 9,90***

In imposing a fide of 810 or 10 2062207 days the Magistrate remarked that he could not believe the man's

story.

Yet another case of hawking with- out a license was brought against a Chinese hawker who tried to do business on the Tjisoera with some puddings. Accused pleaded guilty and was fined $10 with the alter- native of 10 days. W

suld cooked food on board the Hong Hwa. A fine of $3 or five days in default was imposed.

For selling fruits on board the Tjisoera without a license an old woman was fined 85 or in default five days.

16 Passengers In Excess. The mistress of a passenger boat was charged with carrying 18 passengers over and above the num ber allowed on her license. She pleaded guilty and a fine of 812 or three weeks was imposed.

False Declaration Charge Fails. The master of the steam launch Wai Fung was summoned before the Hon. Comdr. G. F. Hole, R.N.. for making a false declaration at the Harbour Office. Mr. W. R. Hilliyer in the witness box said that at about 8.20 m.in. on the 2nd inst. he saw the launch with defendant in charge towing a cargo boat with 100 passengers. Defendant had a permit to sow a cargo boat but no Passengers were allowed to travel

on it.
