·YESTERDAY'S ANNUAL
MEETING.
YEAR'S LOSS OF $2.000.
The twenty-second annual meet- ing of Messrs. Gande, Price &Co., Ltd., was held in the offices of the Company, St. George's Building yesterday, Mr. S. C. Pang, Manag ing-Director, presiding.
There were present Mr. Kenneth Chan and Mr. Leung Yan Po (Direc tors), Messrs, Pang Kwok Sui. Pang Kwok Fatt, D. Kumjahn and S. Yamauchi (shareholders) and C. Bond (secretary).
Addressing the meeting, the chair, man' said
Kasner Competition.
Your Directors, regret the resulta for the year under review shew a loss on working account of 82,000.30; this amount together with the debit balance of $1,076.42 brought for- ward from profit and loss account at December 31., 1927, makes a debit balance of $3,085.72 which your Directors propose to carry for- ward to 1929..
During the past year we have had lar keaner competition than in pre vious years and to meet it we have had to reduce our selling prices, which while benefiting our custom- ery has reduced our profts. We were also very unfortunate in cor- became tain old stocks which ullaged and depreciated in bond, thereby causing a heavy loss. Not only had we to bear the loss of the ullages but we were called upon by the Government to pay duty on These two items are the them. only cause to which we can attri bute our losses, which under the were unavoidable. circumstances When addressing you at our last annual meeting I stated that your Directors had every confidence that the fature outlook was more pro- mising and we had every hope that our relations with the outports would again be "resumed, but I I regret to state that owing to the. extra duties enforced by the Chi- nese Customs together with the un settled condition of China hopes have not been fulfilled.
