The speeches of the Prince of Wales and Sir Philip Cunliffe- Lister, President of the Board of Trade, were broadcast from Daven-, try.

We appreciate this gift very much indeed, and the kind thought which prompted it, the trouble they have taken to give us a send off as the youngest amongst so many Companies that have tradi- tions which go back a very great many more years than we have. Mr. Prime Warden, we thank you very aircerely indeed for your very kind gift.

The Prince's Speech. The Prince of Wales, on rising to reply, was greeted with rounds of cheers. He said:-
It is with great difidence, but with very great pride, that I rise to-night to speak and to reply to this toast as Master of this Com pany of master craftsmen of the aca. I am speaking to an audience largely composed of those who have sailed before the mast, and who have had to rough it under condi tops very much worse and very much more strenuous than I even had I stayed in the Navy, could ever possibly have known. My dr perience of the sea Service is very limited, I am afraid, but what I saw of the sea Service I enjoyed very much. Nobody was more sorry to leave the Royal Navy than I was. That was very nearly 20 years back, Even then, could I have carried on, I should not have been more cap able, more experienced, more able to fill this very high position with you as the youngest company of the City of London, the youngest company of craftsmen, than any you could have chosen. I am very ap preciative that you, should have done this three years ago. (Cheers.) I am heartened a little to-night by message I have received from the Prime Minister.
