MEETING.

EASTER FIXTURE.

ERIN'S ISLE PAYS A DIVIDEND

OF $258.20.

(BY EARLY BIRD.)

If dull and, somewhat overcast, the weather remained fuc for the concluding day of the Easter Meating at Happy Valley yester day afternoon. The attendance was a little better, that the first day and the sport generally was well up to standard,

A big upsat occurred in the "B" Class Handicap over one mile, when Mr. Ulater's Erin' Isle won, and paid his supporters $939.20. This was the fcest race of the meeting and resulted in one of the most sensational finishes I have seen for many a day.

In marked boatrast to the first day the track was in wonder- ful condition, as was evidenced by the capital times which were registered in some of the events.

Dividends on the whole were fairly good in view of the fact that some of the contenders were hot favourites.

Place bettors

must have had a very good day, as some of the ponies paid out very liberal odds and altogether I fancy backers must have been well ahead on the two days' meeting.

بر

Mr. A. J. P. Heard distinguished himself by winding two events. Mr. Heard who rode Tangle in the Sellers Plate demon- strated his skill by riding a "C" Class pony to victory despite the fact that the field contained some good clase ***

THE RACING,

Junk Plate... "This should have been Winsome Stag's race but somehow his con nections reserved him for the last event which eventually ended dis- astrously for the big chestnut.

Chesapeake Bay ran strongly, and won easily enough in spite of the fact that he was a bit wobbly at the judge's end,

Mr. Heard, who led nearly all the way looked to have a chance" com ing into the straight, but the farourite came with a big show of speed at the finish and caught the judge's eye. Huntington was second (which was a good perform ance considering he is a "B" Class pany) and Bakers Bay just managed to beat Rose Hat for third place.

He won easily enough and sur- prised me by paying 88 for a win which in view of his ability was extraordinały. Dr. MacGown came in second on his new acquisition, Duke of Nieblung, and Mr. N. Hashim's filly Sunning followed.

Tola Selling Plate, This looked an

easy thing for Triumphant Stag before the race, but somebody blundered, for the good thing did not even get a place.
