The petrol, 'bus has, of course, many advantages of its own where conditions are favourable, but the trolley 'bus can claim a longer life and simpler mechanism, while the absence of noxious fumes and the elimination of much of the noise associated with motor vehicles are further points in its favour. In addition it should be pointed out that the rapid acceleration of the trolley 'bus enables it to give the quickest possible service in places where the amount of traffic is con siderable and stops are consequent-

CARS OF ROYALTY.

In a recent article on the Cars of Royalty which appeared in The Autocar, several magnificent ex- amples of British engineering skill and craftsmanship were described and illustrated.

Among them was one of the four Rolls-Royce cara ordered by King -Amanullah-of-Afghanistan when he was in England last year. This particular car was a three-quarter enclosed cabriolet de ville finished in silver grey and black. The rear windows on each side have a hinged top panel, so that when the car is opened they can be let right down into the panels, over the wheel arches, to be flush with the sill.

Compared with the tram-car the trolley bus possesses much greater mobility and offers much more com- fort for the passengers Here again also the absence of noise is a dis. tinct advantage,
