Despite dull skies which promised rain, over 73,000 spectators attend. ed the Scotland versus England Rugger match at Murrayfeld on Saturday afternoon. The turf was in excellent condition and a splen did game resulted.
Scotland adopted aggressive tac- and tics at the commencement threatened the English line, but Aslett managed to clear by means of a fine kick which relieved pres- sure, and brought the play back to midfield.
This escape appeared to arouse the English side to a realisation of the strength of their opponents, and play gradually improved. Eng- land scored in the seventh minute of the game when a good move- ment by the backs enabled Novis to score a try just inside the corner fag. Harris made an unsuccessful attempt to convert.
Neither side scored again in the first half which finished with a score of 3-0 in England's favour.

SCOTTISH AMATEURS BEATEN.
All the teams in the various Divisions of the English League were engaged on Saturday, Olabs playing on home grounds won twenty-seven out of the forty-four matches, eleren went to the visiting teams, and six were drawn. A total of 183 goals resultad home teams scoring 93.
Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland gained the points from their opponents and remain stap of Division I. Blackbarn Rovers lost a point for the third time successively, but they climbed a step higher owing to Leicester being beaten by the lenders. Aston Villa ware, again out of luck in meeting Derby County.
Middlesbrough, Division IT leaders, were defented by Brad- ford, and are being closely followed by Grimsby who were success ful at home against Preston North End. Bristol City and Stoke each had 5-0 victory. Chelsea displayed erratic form at home. when they received the Wolves.
Luton Town came back to the top of Division III. (Southern), closely followed by four other teams. An outstanding feat in the Northern Section was the 10-1 victory of South Shields over Rotherham
In the Scottish League programme the Rangers were checked at home to a draw by Falkirk, this being, the third time they have lost a point in thirty matches. St Mirren bent Third Lanark by five goals.
