The Provincial Government has issued a formal order for the arrest of Kan Nai Kuang, Mayor of Canton, in the notorious regime of Wong Ki Cheung and Chang Fat Fui just before, and for a little while after the great Communist heaval of December, 1997.

Alter Kat had been bundled out of the place with the rest of the semi-Communist horde it was alleg ed that he had defrauded the Municipality of $100,000 by means of a series of systematic forgeries. The case was gone into by the High Cours of Canton which proclaimed Kan Nai Kang guilty.

It is alleged that he took himself and his loot to America, but that he has since returned to China. He was said to have been in Hong Kong for a time and later in Shang- hai The. Provincial Government, is very anxious to get him back to Canton, and if be is located in any foreign concession extradition pro ceedings will be started against him. A HATED TAX ABOLISHED.

People in Canton, especially the poorer classes, are delighted at the news that the Government will abolish the ferry tax from the 21st of this month. The difficulty arose on account of a doubt on the part of several members if this did or did not mean that the money for mission- ary work should go through a cen trub clearing house, ie, the Execu tive Committee, and be alloented by them as they thought 6t, with out consulting the individual or church who might have been the donor of the money. The difficulty was settled by changing the words in clause (d) to "

"the missionary work of the Church."

The Dean suggested that as the Yau Sun Tax Collecting Company Executive Committee proved its will no longer have to remit to the value individual bodies would un Government the sum due in ex-doubtedly voluntarily submit their change for the right of levying the proposed allocations to that body, The decision arrived at was that there was no obligation on the part of any Church or individual, who had money to give to missionary endeavour, to give the money vit the Executive Committee.
