The piece goods market was dull practically all last year, and so far there are few signs of improvement. Many of the shops report that at present their daily receipts often fail to exceed 810.

This is partly due to the season. People bought heavily for Chinese New Year but at present it is too late to buy winter clothes and too early for linen and other summer fabrics,
