The Canton Political Council has decided to accept the order of the Ministry of Communication at Nan. king and to hand over the control of the Canton-Hankow, Canton Samshai and Canton-Kowloon Rail WAYS. These three concerns have been under the Provincial Depart ment of Reconstruction and the Provincial Council has, up till now, opposed surrendering them to the Ministry at Nanking.

TWO NEW LOCOMOTIVES. Of the four locomotives purchased in America" by the Canton-Hankow Railway, two have arrived and are
now being assembled at Wong Sha. They are of the latest type and one, which was tried a couple of days ago, did over 40 miles an hour with out difficulty. This engine is pow on the service between Canton and Shiukwan. Owing, however, to the bad state of the permanent way, the maximum speed has been restrict ed to 30 miles an hour. This is, however, more than one-third faster than the speed of the old locomo- tives and the journey between Can- ton and Shiukwan only takes three hours when this engine is in use instead of the full Ave of the other locomotives.
