Police Constable Naylor, the Hereford coroner's officer, was con- gratulated by the Inspector of Factories on an exact working model of a timber anwing plant exhibited at an inquest on Albert Lane, of Hereford, who was killed in a sawmill. The model was work- ed by a clockwork motor pre seating a steam engine, and was set in motion by the coroner, who placed a small block of wood on the saw bench in such a position that when it was caught by the teeth of the saw it was whipped up with such force that it struck away a guard and flew in the direction where the operator would be stand- Sua. ing. It was stated that the block of wood concerned in the accident was solid ash weighing 271bs, but the terrific speed of the saw threw Tarn. 1 the wood a distance of twenty feet after it struck Lane. The model Wed. 13 exhibited by Police Constable Nay- lor gave an exact reproduction of Thur. 14 the way in which the accident oc- curred. A verdict of "Accidental death was returned
