SHANGHAI'S HOME-MADE

AEROPLANE

SUCCESS NO, I COMPLETED AT THE HUNGJAO AERODROME

ALL BUT THE ENGINE CHINESE.

Shanghai, February, 1st:-The aeroplane which has been under construction at the Hungjão Aero- drome has now been completed and satisfactory trials were made yester day afternoon in spite of a strong wind.

Six months ago, a factory was established in connection, with the sorodrome for the manufacture of flying machines with Mr. Sun To Shih and Mr. Chow Chia Ma in charge as director and expert rea- pectively. When the people began to take an interest in aviation a month ago, these two men decided to construct a 'plane, which'' was completed a couple of days ago.

This 'plane has accommodation for two persons. The wings have o span of feet and it carries a Bristol 200 h.p. engine. The machine is known as the "Chong Eung Ti Yi Hao" (Success No. 1).

With the exception of the engine, all parts of the machine were made in China, at a cost of $3,000. The engine cost $4,000 and workers' wages amounted to $1,000, the 'plane thus costing approximately $6,000 altogether.

The Success No. 1 is capable of attaining & speed of 70 miles an hour, cruising speed, and a height of 16,000 feet. In addition to two persons, it can carry 1,000 lbs. of mail.

The new aeroplane was originally named the "Si Hung Ti Yi Hao (West Hungiao No. 1), but later Was called the "Success No. 1" by Mr. Shun Ping, chief of the National Government Aviation Bureau.

Experienced Director.

In the factory, there are employ- ed the director, an expert, four mechanics, 31 supervisors and more than 120 workers, whose monthly wages exceed $10,000,
