I have been accorded a very special privilege in having been allowed to see the new early Spring hats, which have just arrived at the Dolly Vardon Hat Shop. They are not on sale until Monung but I was allowed to see them, for this article yesterday.

Points To Notice,

One of the most delightful things about these new hats (100 of them, have arrived by the way) is that they are decidedly different from the winter styles Points worth noting are that crowns are tride higher and tend to slope back slightly Brims are coming in. but are mostly made, even on straw or felt models, of stitched silk. They are very soft and can be arranged just as you wish, sometimes they are scalloped all round or put into pleata at one side. Corded silk and taffetas play a very important part. and are generally trimmed with flat applique flowers in contrasting colours stitebed on with gold thread. Narrow bands of shiny straw braid are used on felt hats. Trimmings, except in the case of self bows on felta. are kept Aat and are less bright than those of the winter models. Speckled effects of bath corded silk and straw are new and good.

Flower Toques.

Among the hats, to come to details. are several which are made of close set, small, velvet Bower! hends often in two tones. The cyntres of these flowers are often For made of single pearl. example, there is a hat covered with

flowers of two tones of orchid pink (very good colour just now) with pearl centres, which has a trimming band of black straw, the effect being rather as if the black straw brim had been cut off and laid against the crown, a fashion which has proved very popular when dealing

with felt.

Speckled Effects.

Beige straw has a brich of stitch- ed beige silk. On the crown are appliqué leaves of pink corded silk,

A toqué of scarlet ostrich fea- thers, slightly curled and closely set on a round shape, which they completely cover.

ROUND THE TOWN.

Old Bleach

and a narrow ribbon of blue gras grain, gives this model a colour scheme which would make it easy to wear with almost any spring" frock.

A black satin toqué "has a trimming of straw braid which cuts it up into various decorative segments. Dull green corded silk is trimmed with a band of speckled pink and green' straw.

Scalloped Brim.

Another attractivo beige straw model also has its brim of stitched

silk in the same colour. In this caso the brim is scalloped which makes a very charming frame to the face. Leaves of corded silk in pink, brown and beige, are appliqué on the crown. A black corded silk hat has a trimming band of blun silk which runs round the crowa and up in front. The brim is underlined with 'blue.

A very smart hat is made of crushed strawberry pink corded silk and black satin, the latter being used for the top of the crown: Bad joined to the pink in vandyke points. Between these points is a little gold thread embroidery.

Summer Feltz.

A box of summer felts was opened for me and its contents were most attractive- They are in a good many colours, though beiges and pinks, from the palest to a deep rose, predominated. These models are trimmed with fines of braiding of black or dark brown straw and the effect is very light and amait..

The five-dollar sale of hats con- tinues until Monday when these new Spring models will be on view.

TRY STRAWS.

When the children did not drink

as much milk as we thought they should nothing would as quickly and easily increase their consump tion as the use of common soda -One of the most interesting water straws. It seems as if the novelty of drawing the milk through materials, which has been put laten etraw overcame all their former ly on the market, is the 'new objections and they relished it.

It is celdured old Bleach linen. made in a very wide range of ex quisite colourings and you can find it in the piece goods department of LANE, CRAWFORD's. It is inter- esting because its possibilities are so great. The material itself is fine, hard wearing and the colours are fast to washing. It drapes beautifully and is delightfully soft

Trocks Pamela's Sale, Bargain

And Hats. The sale at PAMELA is still on though it finishes. I believe, on Thursday. Everything is much re-. duced and there are some really wonderful bargains to be bad in. summer frocks, of silk, muslin, and linen. A few evening frocks are also being offered at the same ab- surdly low price of $10.30. Most of these dresses are small sizes, but "not all of them are for petite women: Some have been designed for the slender graceful lines of the woman who is lucky enough to have what is now considered the ideal figure. I saw among them several very smart white silk dresses and other afternoon silk frocks in colours. This is comparatively new stock and the material and cut is beyond reproach.

There are a large number of mart felt hats offered at $10.50, and on Wednesday all hats remaining will be marked at half price.

A short coat trimmed with Jany fur collar and cuffs is very mart.

Crystal And Jade." The PIONEER SILK STORE have just got in some most attractive jewel lery, both Artificial andreal. Crystal, which everyone likes be cause it is so easy to wear and generally becoming, is represented by necklaces of well out and nicely graded beads, and also by pretty chains in which the crystal is allied with silver chain.

There are imitation jade chokers, some made of rounded beads, others of flat or rounded beada: with an ornamental clasp in Chinese silver The colour is so well imitated that it would be very hard indeed to say if this jade were the genuine stone or not, and a necklet of this sort which costs little over a dollar can add very considerably to the smart look of an ensemble mi

It is being used now largely for hangings and household linen generally, and the love of colour which is one of the most heartening things about the world to-day has introduced borders, and applique designs to all sorts of objects which were formerly only porrect in white. You may to-day have coloured table linen, a coloured border to your sheets, pillow slips and towels, and you certainly should have colour on your dressing table.

Crêpe de Chine.

In the ProXEZE SILK STORE I was shown some new crepe de chine in

different shades. It is a parti cularly good colour range and I liked very much the rose pink, shell pink, dark green, and a good range of beiges.

Haori Coats.

The latest. Haori coats, which I saw this week in the PIONEER SILK STORE are reversible, being printed on both sides. The colourings of the coate in this shipment are all very soft and pretty, black and white, blue and grey, or blue and beige, playing a large part. One black and white coat, has white ostrich feathers printed round the bottom of the outside of a black coat, and inside a design of black cherry bloesom is printed on white.

Another has a pale green and brown pine tree design on black out side, and is lined with blue printed in grey and green. A third, which was particularly pretty has outside a design of boughs of cherry blossom on which now has fallen; and beige and pink (I think) inside

In a few days the straws were forgotten but never failed to accom- plish their, purpose when needed again. They may be bought at any grocer's.

PINK AND SILVER.

Shell pink georgette in used for thin dance frock with a long full skirt which dips at the back. The deep hem is of silver lace.

Cosmetique which is quite the best thing, I believe, for making up the eyelashes and brows, and also new Chanel perfume."
