IMPROVEMENT IN CARGO TOTALS.

SEVENTEEN ARRIVALS,

The general cargo returns for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday were very good. Both local importa and through freights showed heavy totals and of the seventeen arrivals and sixteen departures three ar riväla and six departures wers British. Japanese vests, wore the heaviest carriers and discharged 8,800 tons of coal for Hong Kong. Fifteen ships discharged 19,803 tons of general merchandise for Hong Kong of which three British ships contributed 2,133 tons.

The two heaviest returns were from the

Ashikara Maru (Japanese) from Karacau with 4207 tons of coal; and the s.s. Bintang (Dutch) from Seattle and Los Angeles with

3,230 tons of general merchandise.

The. S.S. Bu! Tai's Trials. The s.s. Sui Tai, of the Hong Kong Canton & Macao Steamboat Company, will leave the Company's wharf opposite the Wing On Com pany at 2.30 p.m. this afternoon on trer trial run. The vessel vas gutted by fire some time ago just after she had arrived from Macao.

Bintang (Dutch) arrived from Seattle and Los Angeles with 3,230 tons of general merchandise for Hong Kong and 3,500 tons for other

Vulcanua (Dutch) arrived from Haiphong with 638 empty drums and 65 gallon drums for Hong Kong.

Van Heute (Dutch) arrived from Singapore with 451 tons of general cargo for this port and 743 tons for other parts.

Clara Jebson (Danish) arrived from Saigon with 2,465 tons of rice for this port

Asiatic Deck Passengers, Seven vosals brought 2,890 Asiatic deck passengers to the Colony dur ing the 24 hours eaded at 9 a.m. yesterday.
