SALE SHOPPING. SOME HINTS

WHICH WILL SAVE TIME, MONEY, AND REGRETS.

Every woman loves a sale. But by no means every iraman knows how to get the best ad- vantage from one.

F.

The golden rule it to keep your head, which, alas, is more easily said than done, although there is a possibility of doing it if you shop with a system.

Quite the best thing to do is to make a list, but it is little use doing this while coming to town via the Peak Tram or the Star Ferry. The lint should be made at home and a good deal of time devoted to the making..

Perhaps it is best to start with yourself fur, however; well meaning you may be your own needs are generally the ones which whisper most earnestly in, your mind. Put down first the things you need and against them the price which you would normally expect to pay for them, in this way you can at once check a bargain price." Nest put down those things which you would like to get if a good opportunity offers, against these put the outside price you are prepared to give.

After this it is a good plan to take a look through your drawers and wardrobe and add to "your first list any further necessities of which you may discover yourself in want haw or in the im

mediate future.

Enetly the same procedure should be gone through with reference to the children's things and the needs of kitchen and linen cupboard. If your husband allows you to take an interest. in his clothes you might make similar lístà on his behalf.

If you read the articles below you will see mentioned some of the particular bargains offered to-day at the varioux shops which are at present holding sales, and a careful perusal will save you from going first to the wrong shop for the particular things you want.

LANE, CRAWFORD'S.

A REAL OPPORTUNITY IN ALL DEPARTMENTS. Lane Crawford's are holding a 1 in "chilprupe." sale in all their many departments, which should on no account be miss- ed. It is impossible in the short space at my disposal to give you a "very comprehensive survey, but I would urge you to take a walk round the store and see for your- self, especially as I do not remember that this shop has held a sale before during which so very many tempt ing bargains were to be had.

garments can be got very cheaply, and also zaw some charming little felt hats in several colours for about 82.50. Woollen socks are very much reduced too, and there are some attractive little jerseys at about half price.

The furnishing departmcat will, of course, attract all women who keep house and offers many op portunities to save money by buying necessities at a big redaction. One always benefits greater by a sale when purchasing household linen, for example, and Lane, Crawford's stock is particularly good and at-

tractive.

All the Canton blackwood and Oriental goods generally are much reduced.

In the children's department I found that a number of oddments

MILLINERY, FROCKS, AND FANCY ARTICLES,

The sale at the Felix Hat Shop is going along merrils, and the goods are being atill further re- duced in order to clear everything out before the arrival of new stock. As this little shop has always been remarkable for good value, the sale offers a really extraordinary chaace of getting a delightful bat of frock at prices it would be hard to equal; anywhere, here or at Home. Some of the things are being sold well i below cost, this applies particular- ly, I believe, to the fancy articles, such as sachets, flowers, pin- qushions, etc., which remain over from the Christmas stock.

Most women are more interested in hate than in any other part of feminine apparel and they will fad in this shop, a large number of very smart hats which have been all marked at $9 irrespective of cost. Most of them were marked before the sale between 830 and $30.

There are a number of velvet hats- trimmed" with gold or silver galon or coloured chenille braiding, some of them have a swathe or under- lining of lamé. A hat of this dea cription makes an exceedingly smart finish to a fur coat or one ↑ with a big fur collar. The Felix Hat Shop makes a specially of de- corative hats. On another shelf I noticed a good range of felt hats

Upstairs in the Ladies' Depart meat I looked-first at the jumper suits which I found bad been very much reduced. There are some very attractive two-piece suits, for ex- ample, with woollen jumpers and pleated crepe de chine skirts for only $29.50.

Among the evening frocks was a green beaded georgette with the skirt cut long at the back for $38,50, and a very unusual and smart dress in deep tangerine pink. georgette for only ten dollars more Another charming little green geor gette frock, with inset panels of

tea lace, was $59.50.

I saw, too, some very nice long coats with collars and cuffs from about 840, and any number of desir able felt hats at prices running from #3

THE DOLLY VARDON

HAT SHOP.

HATS AND SOME WASHING JUMPER SUITS.

The sale at the Dolly Vardon Eat Shop has already been on some time. Many of the goods offered you have run in and bought but there still remain some hats and frocks which are being offered many of them at less than half price.

Among the hats, I think the biggest choice now is of. Felvet. which is lucky because we really must be going to have some cold weather these next two months, loath as winter appears to be to visit Hong Kong this season. When the cold weather comer and we wrap ourselves in our big coats a little velvet hat looks very much smarter above the fur collar than a felt The soft luxuriousness of the fabrio seems more appropriate also, and brings out the gleam and richness of the fur.

Another very charming fashion, which has been introduced this eenson, is to "wear a small hat of silver or gold tissue, which is often further ornamented with coloured stitchery with a fur coat. These bats are similar to the popular little theatre caps except that they are more formal in shape and generally have a small brim. While the theatre cape bave nearly all been sold during the sale, I saw that a very nice number of the little gold and silver hats remained.

In the wardrobe are hanging still

a few very attractive frocks, which are marked down considerably for the sale. There are one or two even- ing frocks, several beaded, and others of silk and tulle. Among the latter is one very charming black frock with a moiré bodies and a skirt of frills of tulle edged with moiré. Avery striking "note is given by the red brown roses at the waist and shoulder, and the price is only $25.

There are three or four white silk jumper suits for sporta wear. One of these is particularly smart "It has a finely pleated skirt of a plaid, pink and white silk, the jumper being white, with a collar and sailor tie, of the same plaid stuff. An- other white suit has collar and cuffs of lemon and yellow.

The sale at the Dolly Vardon Hat Shop is one which you should visit even if you believe that you have all the hats you want because no woman has On the shelves there you will find half a dozen hats. of felt, velvet, or of tifeel tamé, that you are longing to give a kind Home to, and if you are wise you will take at least a couple home with you and you can buy them both for less than you would expect to pay for one in normal times.

Prepare the materials for pan- caking: Eggs, flour and milk, with a touch of salt. Then prepare the stuffing you think you will like beat to consume, It may be a quite simple one, such as a very thick white sauce, mixed with an addition of chopped yolks of hard-boiled eggs and a touch of finely-chopped pars- ley.
