DETAILS OF FREIGHTS.' Arafura (British) arrived from Melbourne and Manila with 769 tons of hemp and general cargo for Hong Kong and 3,007 toas for other ports.

The first defendant said that the parcels belonged to three passen gers, but the police had arrested her. instead of the passengers. When the police searched the boat she submitted and the police found the bags of rice at the bottom of the sampan. They did not throw anything overboard.
The Magistrate registered a con viction and imposed a fine of $5 of each of the defendants, and ordered the rice to be returned to the owners.
