Stowaway on Dutch Steamer,

A Chinose was before Mr. E. W. Hamilton at the Kowloon Magis tracy yesterday on charge of being a stowaway on board the Dutch vessel Tjikini, which arrived here from Amoy. The defendant atated that he had asked the ship's compradore if he could make the trip to Batavia where he would refund the money, which he would obtain from relatives. there. The compradore was called but denied having given the defendant any such privilege
As the Police did not wish for a term of imprisonment to be im posed, the Magistrate ordered the defendant to be detained at the House of Detention until a vessel of the Company-the - Java-China- Japan Lija-was leaving this part for Amoy.
Paul Local Buinț At Marseilles, News was received in the Colony yesterday of the burning of the French Mail liner, Paul Lecat, at Marseilles. A full account, of the fire appears in another page of this Issue. The Paul Lecat is very well. known here, having been on the Far Eastern service since 1911 when she was built.
