Extending The Range. An outstanding feature of the exhibition was the large number of new lightweights on view. The Rudge-Whitworth range, for in- stance, has been increased by the addition of two 250 cc, models and new 350 c.c. machine, all of which are provided-with the makers four speed gear.

The 5.0 h.p. engine of the Matchless "big twin remains un- altered, but the machine has been entirely redesigned. The new frame gives an exceptionally low riding position, while here also the ground clearance is high. Despite the fact that the power output and speed mossibilities are so great this ma thing can be handled like a light- weight thanks to the low saddle and compact frame design.

A Dirt Track Model. An interesting example of a high- ly efficient machine evolved solely for use on the speedway was ex- hibited by Rudge-Whitworth, Ltd. This was known as the Dirt Track Special, and was fitted with tiny tanks, the approved style of handle. bar and knee hook and a single gear of 8.1. Although Rudge-Whit worth dirt track specials have been highly successful during this year the new machine possesses her of improvements 'over its pre- decessors; notable among these is the scientific strutting of the frame, resulting in lighter and much. more controllable mount.
