The system of Travellers Chaques was originated in 1891 by the Americaa Express Company with the object of creating a form of travel carrancy which would give the holder the security of a letter of credit and the same time the convenience of local currency. The Company registered the cheques under

EXPRESS the trade name of AMERICAN TRAVELERS' CHEQUES' the word Traveller being spelled with one "1". The advantage of the Obeques was so apparent that other banking institutione adopted the system,”
