The general cargo returns for the week-end were exceptionally high: both local imports and through freights being above average. Japanese vessels were outstanding as heavy cargo carriers. Forty arrivals and forty-one departures shown, of which thirteen arrivals and fifteen departures were British ships. Ton Japanese ar- rivals and eleven departures were also shown. Saturday's Statement, Twenty-four arrivals and eighteen departures for the 24 hours ended 9am on Saturday showed very heavy cargo returns for both in ports and through cargo. Six British arrivals and five departures were show, against eight Japanese arrivals

and Bix

departures. Japanese vessels were best through

carriers..

Twenty vessels discharged mer chandise for this part amounting 24,241 tons, of which only 1,610 tons were discharged from three British ships. The best returns were from the ss. Wabashä (German) with 6,860 tons of kerosene; and the as Narviken (Norwegian) with 2,094 tens of rice from Saigon.

Through freights were very good And anointed to 38,799 tons. Four British vessels carried 9,038 tona The best carrier was the as. Durban Maru (Japanese) with 9,766 tons of general cargo from Liverpool and Singapore. The s.3. Genoa Maru was next best with 8,893 tons from Calcutta and Singapore; while the best British carrier was the 3.8 Karmala with 3,738 tons from Yokohama and Shanghai.

Yesterday's Figures. The general enrgo returns for the period ending at 8 a.m. yesterday showed an increase for the local, imports, but less through carge. Sixtera arrivals and twenty-three departures were shown, of which seven arrivals and ten departures were British vessels.

SHIPPING MOVEMENTS.

The E&A Co.'s 5.6. 51. Alban left Manila for Hong Kong on the 30th ult., with the outward Aus- tralia mails, and is due here. this (Monday) morning

Local imports discharged from fifteen vessels amounted to 26,130 tons, six British ships contributing 3,802 tons. The two best returns were from the sa. Amagisan Maru (Japanese) with 3,470 tons of lime store from Haiphong and Kwong Yuen; and the 9.5. Tjikini (Dutch) with 4,800 tons of sugar and general for Hong Kong on the 30th uit. at The P. & 0.8.8. Jeypore left Moji cargo from Batavia. The beat British carrier, the as. Apocy, had pm, and is due here on the 5th 4.000 tons of coal from Port Kamfa. inst., at about noon.

Through freights amounted to 17,730 tons. Of the nine carriers four were British contributing 1,206 tons. The two best carriers were the s.s. Karpfanger (German) with
