am sleeping under thres blankets and still I am cold," said a friend of mind the other day. She lives on one of the exposed corners of the Peak, and I wondered what she will do when the real told wen- ther comes. You can go on adding blankots, of course, if you are a chilly perenn, but every blanket is an added weight which takes so much off the rest which sleep brings to your body. That lassitude and below par feeling, from which so many people suffer in the winter, can often be traced to the burden of bed clothes and, of course, no thing is worse for your complexion. If your skin cannot breathe pro- perly your complexion will quickly
suffer.
Lightness and warmth are the two essentials of bed clothes; they must be light in themselves and so warm that the fewest possible layers are required. Most skin specialists are very emphatic too on the ad- vantage of light, loose, night attire Blankets which have seen long service and have been frequently

QUINNEY TELLS A "FISH STORY.
Quinney told me an amazing fish story a few days ago. He told it with all due solemnity, and backed up his words with a photograph of the fish. He appeared (except One is in deep rose pink and is for a certain "look" in his eye), to lined with silver tissue. Another not dissimilar cloak is of night blue. This has a big roll collar and a similar fringe trim ming There is also a pale sea green cloak lined with ailver and collared with white fur and several others each of which has its own particular beauty,

This matting destroys the cellular property of the fabric which works on the same principal as aertex in keeping your body at the correct tempera- ture irrespective of what the air may be. A thickened blanket, too, seems stiff, it dars not lightly and warmly envelope you, but has to be wrapped round, so that when you turn over it must all be ar ranged again. In fact, there is twice the warmth and many more times the health and comfort to be had out of one new blanket than two old ones.

Here is the story in his own words: "Some weeks ago an old Chinaman came to ace showed me a fish carved of bron stone about one foot long, He tells me it is of the Han dynasty, about 200 B.C. He then tells me that if I put this fish in water in ten minutes it will move its tail and change colour. Whoever handles it. will be in some way paychically attached to it and will dream about it. These dreams will be prophetic.. and warn him of any dangers.
I tried the experiment," said Quinney, and to my amazement after a few minutes the fish accred to become Bexible and change colour. My Chinese boy got pale with fright and I myself felt chilly."
Quinney asked the price of this marvellous fish and Was told $3,000. When he remarked that he could get a live fish for about 50 cents, the vendor become angry and said, Don't joke about this fish, it is listening and to do so is very dangerous.'
Quinney still refused to buy at the price but took the man's address and a photograph of the stone fish.
Now comes the strange sequel. Some days later, on going to bed. late, or rather early in the morn- ing Quinney says that he noticed that his little fox terrier was very nervous and he had trouble in quistening him. Before he fell asleep he had a visión "of a large brown fish floating in the air sur rounded by phosphorescent light, and the barking of the dog brought him to full consciousness. He turned on the light but could find nothing amiss. When, however, he wake the morning be discovered that a burglar had broken into his flat and stolen several things of personal value.
"I informed the police." said Mr. Komor "but up till now I have heard nothing: I am waiting for the fish to reappear and may be it will give me a clue as to who stole my goods."
SUCCESSFUL MAKE-UP.
A HINT FOR THE MIDDLE- AGED.
One must not forget that it is only the young face which can really stand an obvious make-up. For the older woman the more subtly she uses her rouges and powder the more pleasing the effect. Her effort should be conceal her lines, to soften her features, to take from her eyes that tired look rather than to amuse herself by making up her face to match a frock.
