PREVALENCE OF

PREVENTIVË STEPS TAKEN,

"A PEAK CASE-LONG TIME

"TO DEVELOP.””

That the Government is taking steps to combat malaria in the Colony by reconstruction of various aullahs Wis announced at the Sanitary Board Meeting yesterday afternoon in reply to questions asked by Dr. W. V. M. Koch

It was also stated that Surgeon Commander Given, R.N., bad ad- vised against any hasty abandon. ment of well tried methods, until he has had time to make a more adequate investigation of local con- ditions.

Dr. Koch asked:-

(TO THE EDITOR OF THE ** HONG KONG DALLI PRESE."]

Six-For some years, this Colony has had the reputation of being apathetic towards Music, and many of the distinguished artists who have performed here, have had exceedingly bad houses." Some- times the notice has been so short that many people have been booked for other engagements; at other times the advertising has been in adequate or the artist has not been sufficiently well-known to attract attention.

A Society has now been formed, called the Hong Kong Musicai Society, the object of which is to **Will the Head of the Sani-stimulate interest in music and to tary Department inform the Board | give out by post information about whether steps Are being con- recitals, etc., as soon as dates are tiquously taken towards the prob fixed, to ensure a good attendance. lem of Malaria : Prevention and Elimination? Mr. Sayer Yes. For the routine work of this Department, I would refer the members to my predeces sors's replies to similar questions given on April 3rd last. The follow

ag statement of dullah training in progress or completed during the urrent year has been provided by the Director of Public Works:-

(a) Reconstruction of Wong Wei Cheong nullah, sections and (b) Training of nullab at Tung Wuh Hospital site, Sookupoo "Valley.

No Hasty Steps! Dr. Koch: As presumably, the authorities are in possession of the report by Surg. Commdr. Given, R.N., on the Prevalence of Malaria in the Colony, may we be informed whether any action has been taken in accordance with his recommenda tions. If so, what steps have been taken if not why have steps not been taken t

I should like to emphasize that the Society will have no financial interest in any of the concerts to which it lends its support. There is no subscription, but members age expected to make every endeavour to come to good concerts.

To make this veature a success, it is necessary to have the names and addresses of everyone in the Colony who would like to receive the notices of concerts and I should appreciate it if you would. allow me to appeal through your columns for the sup port of those interested.-Yours faithfully,

A. M. BOWES-SMITH,

Secretary. Prince's Building. Hong Kong, November 13th.

The hope of getting a play ground for Wanchai children ap pears to be a forlorn one judging from the Government's replies to Mr. J. P. Braga's questions asked at the Sanitary Board meeting yes- terday afternoon.
