The preparation of the ground organisation at Karachi and Cat cutta is now.well advanced, and a start will be made with the organi sation of the Calcutta-Rangoon sec- tion as soon as funds permit. Once the through route Karachi-Rangoon has been established the air mail from England will be delivered in Delhi in seven days, in Calcutta in cight, and in Rangoon in nine as compared with 16, 47, and 19 days respectively by the sea route. The operative companies will be sub sidised in the first instance.

Three-Engined Aircraft.

It is anticipated that the Karachi- Delhi section will be ready by the autumn of next year. The Govern- ment of India stipulates ny a con- dition for the contracts that three-

engined aircraft of an approved type of British construction shall be used throughout. At the same time the Government proposes, funds permitting, to proceed with the ac- quisition of a site for the construc- tion of an aerodrome at Bombay, with a view eventually to extending: the London-Karachi service to

Bombay.

In agreeing to these proposals the committee suggested that following the British practice the Government should participate in the profits of the services over and above a cer- tain percentage on the capital of the operating companies after mak- ing provision for depreciation.

The meeting gave a growl.

After further discession the meet- ing passed the following resolu- tion:-

This meeting of the Middlesex and Essex Jag of the National Union of Waylarers protests strongly against the new type of casual ward ordered by the Minis- try of Health and erected by the Edmonton Board of Guardians. and icquests a return to the old type with its plank beds and no nightshirts.

The meeting concluded with a parting benediction from the chair man when a polieman, notebook in hand, requested the company to
