DRAPERIES.
The exquisite skill of the 'eutter has never been used to better ad- vantage than in the new season frocks designed for afternoon or restaurant wear. Godets, of course, play an important part, but they) are godets set in quite a new fashion. Sometimes they begin as a scarf belt, sometimes from an ornamental insertion, this latter often circular or triangular in
form.
Pamela's new collection of model gowns offers an excellent chance to study the mode, and discover which of the fascinating things we saw sketched in the advance fashion books have really been adopted by

CORDING AS TRIMMING.
ON LIGHT AND HEAVY FABRICS.
Cording is undoubtedly one of the most favoured trimmings of the moment. It is used on georgette and on the heaviest face cloth with equal success. It is worked in an "all-over" pattern on the holera of the ensemble at the extreme right; in groups of straight lineas on the centre model; in single linen," which take the place of the inverted tucks" of yesterday, or in a com-' bination of lince and whirls like those on the coat at the left of the group:
A much softer, "cord" is used to-day than that associated with the cording of the past, so that however closely a pattern is worked the result is never stif

DECORATIVE HATS AND FROCKS.
At the sign of the little black cat *Felix you "will always find a number of hats expressive of the decorative side of the new autuma mode.
..
When I looked in this week I found a party of girls very much enjoying themselves by trying on hats, and I felt considerable sym- pathy with one of them who ex- claimed "Oh, I am so glad to see pretty hats again, I'm so tired
the plain little felt" Now I would not myself go so far as that, for the "plain little felt" is s very good friend indeed, and has come back this year in a most attractive guise, but it is certainly delightful to have these gay and colourful little velvet shapes in again, with their picturesque plumes and gold braiding.
Leaves Of Felt And Velvet.
I saw, for example, a small brim- less cloche shape, made of pink velvet leaves and 'trimmed with a small mount of silver sequins in front à beige felt has fat green and bronze maple leaves, of velvet, appliqué on the crown, and a the danent cap in cloth of silver has a wreath of the same maple leaves expressed in tabac brown felt.
Scarlete, madonna and saxe blues, and blush rose pinks, made the shelves gay, with here and there a glint of gold or silver trimming. All of these hats have individuality and chic and they are an excellent tonic for grey days.
Evening Frocks,
Among the new frocks whose at quaintence I was delighted to make this week, is an airy fairy creation of orchid chiffon for dancing hours, Narrow silver ribbon is stitched on to suggest a swathed wash, and a cleverly cut godet at the left hip give the movement which is so im portant in the present fashions.
Very lovely is a white. georgette. frock which might be used, for amart afternoon wear or at a small dance or dinner party. It is cut very simply on loosely girdled chemise lines with a bateau neck line, and is trimmed with découpé work in an exquisite design, which forms the front panel at the skirt and a narrow panel running "up the centre of, the bodice. The rest of the bodice is knife pleated.
An apricot georgette frock is cut on picture lines and has a deep bolero collar edged with gold face.
PICTURES FOR EVERYONE.
A GALLERY OF JAPANESE ART.
The pictures for the text exhibi- tion of Japanese water-colours have already arrived at Komor's. When I Went in yesterday I found Mr. Komor and his daughter busily. marking them off, and I was privil- aged with the sight of some of them, although the exhibition will not be open to the public until about the 25th of this month.
The exhibition comprises, as usual, a large number of water-colours from the foremost Japanese artists of the day Yamamoto, Terrabuchi, Kano, and others. Every subject is treated, landscape, seascape, por trait, and figure compositions; and Perhaps the most interesting frock has brought a charming example the wonderful light effects for is one of wine red satin which of the newest kind.
