spirit of partnership that was far more likely to result in a solution of industrial problems in England. Class warfare was just as wicked, and just as stupid as military and international warfare.

The subject is of absorbing im- portance to the human race. It is no wonder the Press have made a feature of it in the news for days on end. But I confess that it letives one with a sense of disappointment. Reduced to its simplest terms, what it all amounts to is that Professor Hill has shown that when the supply of oxygen and sugar to a cell ceases the tendency of the cell to go to pieces is immediately fulfilled, This is what is claimed to be an absolutely new discovery,

J

Want Of Breathi This seems to be merely saying that physiology and chemistry be tween them are trying to unravel the physical mysteries of life. Pro- fessor Donnan described the central problem as that which deals with the nature of the structure and or -ganisation of the living cell. The inolecular structure of the living cell is like a battery that is always tending to run down and requires

constant oxidisation to keep it charged. In this recent, research on the living cell Professor Donnan claimed his friend Professor Hill was beginning to understand the difference between life and death, and therefore the meaning of life itauif.

He sat Lam Long Wan with a jury, and the duty imposed upon him was to inquire whether Roman coins found in a garden at Muswell Hill in North London were treasure trove. For over six hundred years, since 1278, this has been one of the duties of Coroners, and it was continued in the modern Coroners' Act.

Property found in the sea or on the surface of the land is not treasure trove. But property dis covered under the surface of the. ground may be, and hence the need for an inquest. As trrazure trove it belongs to the Crown, though ́ng a rule a large proportion of its. value is handed to the finder. Persons who conceal valuables, in the ground may be paniched by im prisonment, and there have been cases in recent times where this has been done. The offence was at onc time held to be related to larceny and treason.

In the case.referred to which has cropped up this week, the Roman coins were held to be treasure trove

and were forfeited to the Crown. But it was decided that 80 per cent. of their value as determined by sale will be given to the fortunate finder. There were altogether 632 coins, and they had been buried in an earthenware pot at Muswell Hill something like 1,800 years ago. New Mctor Omnibuses For London.
