HONG KONG RACE MEETING.

RECORD DIVIDEND PAID.

MR. DA ROZA HAS A DAY OUT.

[BY EARLY BIRD:

Four winning favourites at Happy Valley put holiday-makers on good terms with themselves at Saturday's resumption of racing and the attendance was very satisfactory considering the number of counter attractions. The racing, though nothing to write hom". about, proved interesting and no doubt everybody thoroughly en- joyed the sport provided,

Quite the most outstanding feature of the meeting was the viding of Mr. G. U. da Reza, who succeeded in piloting four winners out of six mounts, while of the other two one ran third and one was placed. Mr; da Roza's success pinces him number three on the winning jockey list for the present season and I have 'every renson to believe that Monday's wins will place him at the " top of the list,

A pari-mutus) dividend of $2,371 was paid on Lieut. Shilling ton's des of Spies in the "C" Class Jordan Handicap. This constitutes a record for the course, the previous record being held by Chatto who rewarded hackers' with a dividend of $1,432.30 when he won the Peking Plate at the last Annual Meeting. It is to" to be regretted that the owner never made a bet about his candi date, for 'consequently the dividend will go to the Jockey Club as it is the castom of the Club to have a win and place ticket "ou any starter who is nut supported by the public.

Off to a very even start Coos Bay quickly took command, followed by Sunning, and tot. with Wachary clase in bringing up the rear. On his performance in the last race on Saturday Cook Bay looks a certainty for the St. Leger. It was quite obvious he was just idling in front of his field on Saturday and could have run the opposition off their legs if he had' so desired. His penalty of 3 lbs. necessitates his carrying 158 in his

THE RACING.

Jordan Handicap "C" Class. Poor Mr. Starter. If anybody needed to be pitiéd more than the owner" who did not collect 82,574 for his win, that one was Mr. Fiddes Wilson, the Hong Kong Jockey Club starter. Of what use is a strong powerful voice and a frantic waggling of a red flag to a bunch of high strung panicky" Lequine" urgers whose main effort in life seems to be to walk, bulk or talk each other to death at the start of every race. My advice to thase concerned is to quit it, for someone is going to get it in the neek if riders persist in their pre- sent behaviour at the starting post.

When the field was finally dispos- e of Nara Stag was seen to have hearted by the break away but was quickly overhauled by fee of Spades who took commanil of the field before the ive furlong post was reached. At the half mile post The Haugh was lying handily on the heels of the leader but was dis- placed by The Duke of Fichtung at the rock who impressed greatly as he swung round the turn into the straight. Evidently the pace was top strong as he fell back and Siang Heer, ably assisted by Lieut. Morgan of the Queen's, appeared to have a chance of overhauling the leader at the distance post, but Lieut. Shillington could not have thought so as he just carried on and landed his mount au

winner by 14 lengthe. Siang River gaining second place a neck to the good of the Duke of Niebling a under a judicious application of whip and spur managed to hold on to third place.

Fourth Aggregate Stakes. As I predicted One Third, who was, an odds on favourite, won in

effortless fashion. Held in reserve until well opposite the football stands,.be was taken up on the out. side of Tarzan and closed with Bratwhile who contrived to hang on until Mr. da Rozu decided to move on when he literally left the rest of the field standing. What sur- prised me most was that Erstibile. managed to hold on as long as he did.

Nathan Handicap "B" Class." Spinner and Gelu Eve carried nearly all the money in this event bust either succeeded in winning. Passing the winning post first time round Bright Prospect held the lead from Perpetual Motion who quickly faded away. Gala Ben was con- fortably placed throughout the race with Festlake covering a lot of grouad on the outside,
