MACHINE.

DESIGNED TO FLY SIX MILES A MINUTE.

The fastest flying machine ever designed by man is completing ita tests at Felixstowe, on the East coast of England, behind à veil of official secrecy.

It is the Supermarine S5, which has been built to beat the record of 318 miles an hour at present held by Italy. It is hoped that she will show a speed of 360 miles an hour, or six miles a minute.

Flight Lieutenant d'Arcy Greig, a twenty-eight-year-old Scotsman, wili be the pilot.

Flight Lieut. d'Arcy Groig hasi been in strict training for zome weeks, a training which not only includes dieting, but also constant work on the fastest seaplanes in existence, at ever-increasing speeds.. The official attempt on the re- cord will be made at Calshot 'about the end of September or carly in October. A speed approaching 360 miles an hour, which it is hoped will be attained. means that the time occupied in reaching various places from London would be na follows:-

Extraordinary precautions have bech taken by the authorities to prevent details of the performance. of the new craft from jeaking out.

Few people have seen the new speed machine. Tests are only made at dawn, when few people are about, and there is as a rule little or no wind.

The

new

machine differs in many important respects from the Schneider Trophy machines which woa at Venice last year and at- ta ned speeds in the neighbour- hood of 300 miles an hour:

Details of the modifications can not yet be given, but stil: greater stream-line has been found pos- sible, producing considerably higher speed.

Addresting the meeting Chairman said: There is but little in the report to comment on. The Club had . a most successful year all round especially at cricket. Though we did not win either Shield, our 1st League team was one of the strongest we þave ever had, and but for the luck of the draw which made it necessary for us to play two of our hardest matrbes on the small and tricky grounds of our opponents we might well have beaten the University's fine. record..

The 2nd XI. also had a most enjoyable and successful season and we look forward with confidences to seeing both teams do equally well, if not better, this year, We shall miss Lyal and Reynolds but I hear of one or two most pro mising young players who training on to fill the gaps.

The Tennis Tournament,

The events of our annual Tennis Tournament

the new tennis sub-committee to 'devise some means of speeding up next year's events,
