The statue was untouched when the gardens closed at nine o'clock last night. The discovery was made at 5 am. by a keeper, who immediately arranged for the statue to be covered. The police were informed.

Stage Peters Indignant, Miss Dorothy Dickson, who play ed Peter Pan in 1926, said:

It is the most stupid thing I have ever heard of. I cannot imagine what reason anyone could have for such a silly piece The only con- of vandalism. clusion I can come to is that whoever did it must be a lunatic. Miss Pauline Chase, one of the earliest Peter Pana, said:

How dreadful. It is a mystify. ing happening.. What grudge can anyone have against Peter Pan's statue! If it is a prac tical joke, it is a very silly one. I hope the perpetrator will be found and punished.

The statue was the work of the late Bir George Frampton. It was always in his mind, and shortly before his death last May he had made plans which included paving to ornament the base of the group. It depicts in bronze the delight- fully poired boyish figure of Peter Pan, it James Barrie's creation, He is shown standing on a rugged tree trunk, around the base of which are tiny fairies, rabbits, and mice, shyly peeping in response to the call of Feter's pipe.-Daily Juil.
