The general cargo returns for this port were very low for the 21 | Toledo, September 24th. hours ended at 0a.m. yesterday. Toronto, October 10th, Through Freights also showed a decrease, and a big proportion of cargo carried for ports beyond was coal. Eleven arrivals and fourteen departures were shown of which five arrivals and six departures were British ships.

Eleven vessels discharged 7,032 tons of general merchandise for this part of which 1,919 tons were con tributed by ve British ships. The 5.3, Corn (Norwegian) from Chin- wangtao discharged 3,191 tons of coal and the area from London and Singapore had 1,000 tony of general merchandise.

Through freights carried by eight vessels amounted to:-0,063 tons of which 5,000 tons was carried by four British ships. The best car rier was the ss. Kalyan (British) with 3.000 tons from Yokohama and Shanghai. The s.s. Kirsha Maru from Dairen carried a 2,890 tons.ol coal.

A few days ago a number of arrests were made by the Water Polies of boat people who were an- chored in the Typhoon Shelters without written permits. Yester day morning a another batch of boat people were before Commander J. B. Newill, R.N., D.S.O., at the Marine Court for a similar offence + KALYAN' They were arrested in the Causeway† KASHGAR Bay Typhoon Shelter. All six
