Local imports and through car- goes for the 24 hours ending at 9 a. yesterday showed a big des crease from the good figures of the

Of the nine cargo carriers for through ports eight British ships contributed, 7,050 tons to the total of 14,689 toes. The only foreign vessel the s.3. Lyons Maru (Japan ese) from Yokohama and Singapore was shown as best carrier with 6,730 tons of general cargo. The 3.5. Menelaus (British) Was again shown as second best carrier with 6,000 tons.

Inspector Moss pointed out to his Worship that one of the defen- dants who appeared in answer to the summons was a woman whereas WAL the accused was a man. The woman replied that she was the wife of the "KALYAN accused who was the master of the beat and that she appeared because | “KASHGAR” he was sick. Her appearance on his behalf was accepted, and Capt. Hardinge who gave evidence hand- ed his Worship the Food On's log book. He pointed out an entry which would show that the two boats had made fast before the vesael had stopped and that the swirl of the propeller had overtura- ed one of the boats. The Magistrate asked if the two defendants in the previous case were members of the crew. The defendants replied that they were, They admitted that. they had made fast to the vessel before the propeller had stopped.

Fines of 810 were imposed on each of the defendants.
