Sir Alan Cobham, at a luncheon given in his honour by the British Empire League, detailed the route of the proposed air service from Alexandria to Kisumu, in Kenya. East African within four days journey of Cairo. How quickly the air mails could be connected up between Cairo and Europe he did not know, but there was every pos- sibility that within 19 months a air route would be established enabling mails to be sent from London to Central Africa within seven days. Such a service would result in progress and advance ment to the countries through which it passed, all of which would be British territory.

The next section of the air route to be tackled would be from Kisuma down to South Africa. This route would be from Kisumu, through Nairobi, Dodoma, Lake Муцка, N'dola, Broken Bill, Livingstone, and down to Johan nesburg.

If he was not absolutely convine ed that was possible to fly night and day through the Sudan with 100 per cent. efficiency he would never have contemplated the pro- posed service. There were great possibilities for the service even if only from a tourist point of view. The idea of visiting Darkest Africa was attracting them, but he felt sure that when they did visit Africa they would find that it was not Darkest Africa at all." It was Brightest Africa.

We have a Budget to-day of nearly £800,000,000 and yet we cannot spare one or two millions of that to place our air lines on the same basis as foreign nations.
