The cargoes both for this port and for ports beyond were very low for the 24 hours eaded at 9. There were thirteen yesterday. arrivals and fourteen departures of which six arrivals and seven departures were British vessels.

Eleven vessels discharged a total cf 7,791 tons of general merchandise for this port of which five British ships contributed 3,319 tons. The two best returns were shown by the 1.3. Hermod (Norwegian) from Bangkok and Rosichang with 1,050 tons of general cargo, while the s.s. Tyndareus (British) from Tacoma and Osaka discharged 1,524 toas. Through freights were very low, There amounting to 5,476 tons.. were only, five carriers and three British ships contributed 2,921 tons. The best carriers were the s... Kawachi Maru (Japanese) from Yokohama and Moji with 2,451 tons, and the 5.4. SA Albans (British) from Melbourne, and Manila with 1,298. tons of general | Sachsen, Nov. 11th. . ⠀ cargo.

FOURTEEN BOAT PEOPLE AT MARINE COURT.

[BY LONGSHOLEMAN.] Fourteen boat people appeared before Comdr. J. B. Nowill," R.N., D:S.O. at the Marine Court yes- terday for minor offences against the Harbour regulations. The de- fcadants included six Boarding House runners who were aummoned at the instance of Capt. C. A. Stirling of the Empresa of Asia. The charge against these men was that of boarding the vessel without written permission from either the Master or the Officer in charge. All six pleaded guilty and each was fined 893 with the alternative of a month's hard labour.

"Watson's " Coxswain Fined. Leung Wan Chuen, coxswain of the steam launch Pyeris owned by Messra. A. S. Watson & Co., Ltd.,: appeared on a charge of making fast to the s.s. Fan Heut: whilst the steam W13 underway 1A Karbour. Lance-Sergeant Hudson prosecuted and the defendant plead- jag guilty was fined. 810 with the alternative of ten days' hard labour.

· Moored Outside Five Others. For mooring outside five other cargo junks alongside the s.s. Nam Sang and causing obstruction, Ful Ho, master of a cargo boat pleaded guilty and was fined 85 with the alternative of five days' hard labour. Lance-Sergt. Bawer pre- secuted

Anchoring In The Southern Fairway.

Another summans for obstruction by anchoring in the Southern Fair- way was made by Sergeant Went against Ng Kwan, master of a trad- ing junk. The defendant pleaded. guilty and was fined $10 with the. alternative of 10 days' hard,” » Attempted To Leave Port At Dark. For attempting to leave the port of the Colony between the hours of 7 p.m. and i am, three steeramen of trading junks appeared before the Marine Magistrate and pleaded guilty. P. C. Probert who made the arrests was in charge of the case and the defendants were each fined $10.

The Old Offence,

A master and a mistress af cargo boats also appeared on the old cffence of mooring their boats with- in 100 yards of the low water mark during the hours of darkness. A special permit must be applied for to remain against the waterfront but these two defendants could not produce any such permits and were each fined $10 with the alteractive of ten days' hard labour.

H.M.S. "Seraph" Returns, H.M.S. Seraph returned to har- bour yesterday morning. The ves sel was suddenly sent to sen · last Monday night in answer to wireless call for naval help. It is not known where the man-of-war went but the common rumour was. that she made towards Cheung Chow Island to the assistance of a. China Merchants' steamer which was being attacked by pirates from 1 junk.

The naval authorities have made no statement on the aubject.
