DR: STRESEMANN'S

EFFORTS.

(THROUGH ZEUTER'S AGENCY.]

PARIS, August 24th. Dr. Stresemann, the German For eign Minister, who has announced his intention of opening discussions

in Paris on the question of the evacuation of the Rhineland, is not expected to make much headway in the conversation he has arranged to have with M. Poincare and 31. Brinnd on Sunday and Monday respectively.

This opinion is expressed as the French Cabinet which went into the problem last night, has decided that any proposals from Germany must be doubly sifted, in the first place by the whole of the French

Cabinet and in the second piace by all the Allied occupying Powers.

The French standpoint on the Rhineland question, generally speaking is: "No evacuation without compensation in regard to war debts and security,”

The breaking of the bond will render an agent liable to arrest without a warrant, and he will be charged with the offence which will render him liable to imprisonment not exceeding one year and also to
