The system of Travellers' Cheques was originated in 1891 by the Americas Express Company with the object of creating a form of travel currency which would give the holder the security of a latter of credit and at the sams time the convenience of local currency, The Company registered the EXPRESS cheques ander the trade name of AMERICAN TRAVELARS CHEQUES the word 'Travellers being spelled with one "1". The advantage of the Cheques was so apparent that other banking institutions adopted the system.”‚»
