GENERAL INCREASE OF

CARGOES."

TWENTY ARRIVALS.

With twenty arrivals and eighteen departures during the 34 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday the Renera freight returns for Hong Kong and ports beyond the Colony showed a big increase over the poor figures of the past few days An ; American vessel chartered by the A.P.O. had 14,000 tons of oil fuel for this port alone. Five arrivals and eight departures were British hips. Seventeen vessels had cargo for this port amounting to $6,840 tons, and three British ships had 1,744 tons The best cargo retura was shown by the s.s. Helen Fin mont (American) from San Pedro with 14,383 tons of oil fuel for Hong Kong, while the as Malaya ¡"Afară had 4,017 tons of coal from

Yokohama and Sakito.

Through freights carried by twelve ships amounted to 33,019 tons, of which 8,456 tons were car- ried by four British steamers.

The Danish vessel 3.5 Siam wai best carrier with 8,140 tons of general cargo from Copenhagen and Shanghai, while the sapore (British) from Bombay and Singa pars carried. 7,627 tons.

EIGHT MEN RESCUED FROM WRECK.

The master of the ss. Wong Shek Aung (a Chinese vessel under the command of a European Captain} from Saigon reports that they res cued eight men from a wrecked fishing junk and brought them" to Hong Kong. The master sighted the wreck on the night of July 22nd in the vicinty of Quinhon, and it appeared to have capsized in a squall. The crew of eight men were clinging to the wreck, and when picked up they were in a state of exhaustion. The wreck abandoned.

They are all Aanamites, and werd formerly part of a fishing fleet which became scattered in i gale. The survivors were taken to the S.C.A. Office.
