A PROBLEM FOR ALL PARENTS.

The problem of education for girls is more difficult than that of boys, because an important ques tion has to be faced at the outset. Is the higher education of any real

value to women ?

Education of women is a com- paratively modern idea except in a few isolated cases, Victorian ladies were taught little more than to write an Italian band, to learn by rote the answers to some manual of general knowledge, and a sust tering of French and German or Italina. The essential difference be tween that and the education which the modern girl receives in that the earlier generation were never required to think.
