The general cargo returns for yesterday showed that local im-↑ ports and through freights had in- creased on the previous day's figures. Through cargo was very high with an average of 3,000 tons per vessel. Seventeen arrivals and fourteen departures were recorded of which four arrivals and the same number of departures were British ships The Chinese ships had an equal number of arrivals and de-
partures.
Thirteen vessels discharged gen- eral merchandise for this port Amounting to 12,330 tons, threv British abips being responsible for 2.372 tons. A Chinese vessel the as. Cheng Woo showed the best cargo return with 2,700 tons of coal from Keelung, while the a.s. Tibodas (Dutch) from Batavia and Samar- ang had tons of general cargo. Ten vessels carried through freights which totalled 31,600 tons. Two British shipa were responsible for only 668 tons. The best carrier was the s.a. Zoma (Dutch) from Kobe and Shanghai with 6,335 tons of general cargo, while the s.s. Atlas Maru (Japanese), also from Kobe and Shanghai had 5,183 tons.

Yip San Shing and Yip Fung Kwai, two Chinesa masters of fish ing boats appeared before Comman- der J. B. Newill, R.N., D.S.0., at the Marine Court" yesterday morn ing for using bright lights. for the purpose of fishing in a pro- hibited area, Lyeemoon Pass.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty and said that they were well inside Junk Bay.
Police evidence was then given as to the exact spot where the defen- dants were arrested, and the Magis- trate decided to convict and impos- ed a fine of $10. Launches Collide In Yanmati. A collision between two steam launches was reported to the Water Police Station as having happened near the entrance of the Yaumati Typhoon Shelter. Both craft sus- tained slight damage. The cox- swain of the steam launch Fook Zr stated that he had another steam" Iaunch in tow and as he was about to enter the Southern Entrance of the Typhoon Shelter he noticed the other launch the Ping Pu about to leave the shelter. He blew one blast on his whistle but the other launch continued on her course and as a result came in between-his-launch and the tow, damaging the latter to the extent of 9100. The coxswain of the Ping Pu also reported the collision to the water police "and stared that the damage to his launch was about 9100. He did not give any particulars of the collision.
