ANOTHER VICTORY FOR THE FILIPINOS.
AMERICANS ROUTED.
The Filiping baseball nine, which started in this season's league by trouncing the onco invincible - Dragons, secured another win. on Saturday afternoon at the Happy Valley diamond at the expense of
the Americans.
Zatra and Hachiuma formed the battery for the winning side and without giving too much work to the fielders they successfully held the Americans down to 5 runs in exchange for a round dozen.
The winning pack was in excel- lent form and hardly any fault could be found with any individual player. This, however, could not be said of the Americans and they failed to impress.
The game was one-sided and the victorious team was not extended. The scores and line-ups were as follows:

In the first place the advantage which Lancashire possessed in the dampened climate has disappeared; not that the climate is any less anywhere by modern methods of damp, but that it can be imitated treating the atmosphere of the mills. Secondly, the Eastern people, particularly Japan and India. have adopted the methods of machine industry, and they have already become formidable petitors. In India this has been followed up by a system of protec tive tariffs, which injure the Indian people by making their clothing dearer and injuro Lancashire by the exclusion of part of her products. Thirdly, the war was followed by great boom in the industry with immense profits for the manufactur- ers. These temporary profits were in many cases capitalised on a per- manent basis. The Wrong Type Of Remedy. "The remedies are not to be Found in the reduction of wages and the increase of hours, which some. of the manufacturers are inclined to propose.
It is unreasonable to suggest an addition of the working hours when, already the capacity of production is greater than the de- mand and when in certain sections of the trade the majority of the mills are working 40 hours or less and some stop for a week at a time. As to the proposed reduction of 193 per cent. in wages the sacri fice of the worker would far out weigh the small advantage of the merchant in the world's competi- 39)tion. The worker would lose 26, ed. in the pound of his wages.. It is calculated that the consequent re- duction in the price of the finished cloth would be only about one per sent. or id. in the pound.
