INQUEST VERDICT. ·

DISTRESSING SCENES IN CORONER'S COURT.

COLEFORD (Glos.), May 23rd.. Harry Pace, sheep farmer, of Feter Hill, Forest of Dean, `waz found by a coroner's jury at Cole- ford today to have been murdered by his wife Beatrice Annie Pace.

The nine Forest vien of the jury, "after a long consultation, at first returned & verdict that Pace died from arsenical poisoning, "ad- ministered by some person or per- sons other than himself," but the Loroner (Mr. Mirice F. Carter) sent them back to name a person, and on their return the foreman announced: "We have revised our verdict. We find that Harry' Pace met his death by arsenical poisoning administered by Beatrice Annie Pace."

"No, I didn't; no, I didn't!'' The ery came, together with a pas- sion of tears, from the little woman in widow's mourning, who sat be-

Hisses,

It seemed "for a moment that the whole court-room was unnerved by her passionate breakdown. There were murmurs from the public benches. Some one kissed and made an incoherent interjection. There were tears on the face of the foreman of the jury, and his fel-. low jurymen were hard put to con- trol their emotions.

The policewoman pulled the arm of Mrs. Páce and half lifted" her. Inspector Bent, of the Coleford Police, pushed forward to take her other arm. They supported her be- tween them, and, with dragging feet, Mrs. Pace was taken from the court-room to the police station below. That was the manner of her arrest. She cried again as the door closed behind her "No, I didn't; no, I didn't!"

It was found then that she need- ed the attention of the doctor to save her from unconsciousngas. She lay: for a time moaning and weep- ing without restraint, until moder- ate composure was regained. ;

She was then formally accused of murder by Inspector Beat under the direction of Chief Inspector Cornish, of New Scotland-yard, who has supervised the police inquiry into the Pace poison mystery.

Mrs. Pace's ordeal of waiting was made the harder to be borne by the fact that the verdict was reached in two stages.
