(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
LONDON, May 12th.
I hear that there has been a re- markable response to the suggestion! to present Lord Lonsdale with a gift from his sporting friends and admirers on his golden wedding on June 27th. Subscriptions, ranging from a shilling to a hundred guineas have been received from all parts of the world and from all classes. Mr. Charles E. Howard, a racehorse Owner, of Whitchurch Park. Oxfordshire, who first mooted the idea, states that he has received gifts from clubs and individals on the Continent, America, China, and many other countries as well as from all parts of Great Britain. Every racing club in South Africa has con- tributed...
This is a wonderful testimony to the regard held for Lord Lonsdale, who is looked upon as the very best type of English sportsman, univer- Rally respected, and beloyed by all who know him personally. The gift is to be a golden casket having eight panels each representing a different sport: Any money left over will be handed to Lord and Lady Lonsdale distribute to
charities.

Columbres, was a member of a He wealthy Argentine family, planned to study at Columbia University in the autuma and he has been living on remittances sen from home. Previously he studied medicine in Paris, where live his wife and four children.
When Columbres first met the dancer she was unaware of his mar- ringe. He visited her frequently, and lately assisted her in teaching a number of pupils.
It appears that Montero did not desire the young man's passionate advances and recently learned that he was already married. When he was with her on the last day and pleaded that they should elope, she taxed him with her knowledge of his marriage.
