The system

of Travellers' Cheques was originated in 1891 by the American Express Company with the object of creating a form of fivel currency which would gave the holder the security of letter of credit and at the same time the convenience of local currency. The Company registered the cheques ander the trade name of AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERA CHEQUES the word Travellers being spelled with oze #1".
