Wherever the Union Jack flies over à British colony, the British Navy and Army can be relied upon to emerge from its efficiant, unostentatious work-a-day shell on great State occasions. Yesterday's ceremonial in bonour of the sixty-third birthday of His Majesty King George V., at the Cenotaph, certainly did not lack colour.

His Majesty's birthday was honoured by a parade of Britain's Nayal and Military power, while warships and British and foreign merchantmen in the harbour" dressed ship" and the Union Jack was seca waving from the verandahs and roofs of all" business houses.

The march past of the troop, numbering nearly three thousand, was a most impressive spectacle. The snowy white of the sailors' uniform, the red-flecked turbans of the Indians and the tartan kilts of the pipors, and drummers varied the sombre effect of the" long khaki ranks.

The dresses of the very large number of ladies gathered around the Cenotaph and on the roofs and verandahs of adjoining houses formed a picturesque background.

The royal salute was fired from Murray Parade Ground by the let Mountain Battery of the Hong Kong and Singapore Brigade RA. and the booming of the guns was interspersed after acven rounds, by a feu de joie fired by the Guard of Honour of the Scots Guards drawn up on the Prars. opposite to the Cenotaph The band of the King's Own Scottish Borderers played the National Anthem after each volley fired by the Guard of Honour.
