The presence of the Canadian Pacific ateam launch Fancourer in the vicinity on Wednesday after. zoon proved fortunate for a num ber of elderly sampan women who were thrown into the water when their craft capsized in the harbour mid-stream almost opposite Helt's Wharf shortly after 5 o'clock. A Chinese-owned steam lauach was coming into the harbour with three sampans, in tow. The smal lest sampan of the lot suddenly
water-logged and sized. About six women were on board. One of them, a healthy looking woman, clambered on top of the overturned boat, while the others held on to the slippery side with their finger nails. An old woman was crying piteously and appeared on the point of losing her precarious hold any moment. Meanwhile the launch could do little to help with the number of sampans in tow and owing to the suddennees with which the mishap ,occurred.
